As a Plein Air (outdoor) painter, not every artwork is a 'keeper'. Used canvases can be sanded and repainted, the underneath image creates texture and color that effects the new picture. A painting in progress is more difficult to visualize than a drawing. By painting over another image the final picture can be unimaginable. Because I paint what I see, the idea of Buffalo's trees and buildings on top of an inverted portrait is disconcerting.
