As to the hardware buffering, it shouldn’t be a problem, and the only way around it is to install a PCI sound dodec that has hardware buffering.
This is as far as I get with the second set of drivers I found, with the system sound device still unusable.
Oh yeah – I know one of the drivers I attached works for sure with W98, the other one should I don’t remember which is which: I easily got the video drivers installed and working, but am stumped on the sound crysgal. They are usually small square chips with 48 pins pin QFP package.

Lower sample rates such as AC97 is supported by most operating systems, such as Windows and Linux. My video card is pretty minimal.
I will try that tomorrow, thanks. Since you’re running Win98, I’m way out of practice and can’t offer any pointed accurate advice, I haven’t even seen Win98 running on a PC in at least years Maybe you can see it on the motherboard.

I’ve done this with sound drivers and modem drivers when things got rough. Attempting to install another driver results in Windows telling me the current driver is up to date. (Windows 98) Problems Installing Crystal Audio Sound Drivers
Almost a month later and I finally got some time and a monitor. The specification covers two types of component, and the “AC-link” digital interface between them: Alternatively, sample rate conversion could be performed in the DC97 controller or in the software driver.
I haven’t worked on a W98 system in years, but you’d have to right-click on the device in the Device Manager, select “update driver” or something similar, then use the wizard to ‘force’ it to use one of these drivers I can’t get anywhere with either file, probably because I’m trying to update these drivers rather than installing them clean. This revision provides means for the audio codec to supply parametric data about its analog interface much like Intel High Definition Audio.
You can try this older driver remover program; it’s has been abandoned since meaning no new development since ’03so it should work with Win98, but I have NEVER used it for anything.

Can anyone help me? Codec chips have an AC97 interface on one side and analog audio interface on the other. Audoo is in fact a VIA chip, especially since none of the model numbers appear on the Crystal download page.
